NM Learner’s Permit

Congrats!

(If you would like to be obtain a NM Learner’s Permit and you are under the age of 18 you must be enrolled in a NM Approved Driver’s Education Program. Minors will be required to take a MVD Knowledge (Written) Exam to obtain the Learner’s Permit.)

The following documents will be needed to obtain a NM Learner’s Permit:

  • The applicant must be at least 15 years old
  • One (1) proof of identity
  • One (1) proof of federal identification number (SSN)
  • Two (2) proofs of New Mexico Residency (see Real ID form below)
    • An Affidavit of Residency can be signed to prove teen residency for those under 18 years old (MVD Affadavit 10021 can be found below)
  • One (1) NM DOT TSD Learner’s Permit Referral Card (from a state approved Driver Education Program)
  • One (1) proof of a passing score on NM MVD Computerized Exam (can be provided at our locations)
  • A parent or guardian with identification will be required to sign (parent or guardians name must appear of Birth Certificate.
